About the DE31 antenna, I'm globally *very* satisfied
by it.
I used it with a Sony 7600GR and an ATS-909
I tried to compare it to a classic inactive wire
antenna, and the DE31 almost always performed better.
I was surprised when I opened the package. The wire
upon which the rod antenna looks and feels like normal
rope. However, when you plug in the antenna, and tune
in to a radio station, and change the "shape" of the
antenna from a diamond shape to a triangle shape by
lowering the upper part of the rope so it touches the
lower part of the rope for example.... well you don't
receive anything anymore! So it seems that the "rope"
really has some electromagnetic properties.
I also noticed that the antenna doesn't really work at
3900 kHz (as it claims it does) but really starts to
work well at 4300 kHz (according to the very short
tests I did). I did not try to see how far up it would
go.
Another surprising thing is that it performs very
inconsistently. On some stations plugging it in will
considerably increase the SNR compared to reception
from the whip. On others it will amplify the noise and
not the signal ( ! ). However when this happens, it
can be a good idea to turn the antenna off. It then
most of the time still receives better than from the
whip (even on the 7600).
And contrary to another thing I read, the tuning knob
on the antenna is very sensitive. Tuning it as Liypn
explains in the short user guide he sends to buyers
via e-mail suffices.
Also when turned off the antenna will receive better
than from the whip on some stations and worse on
others... It's really strange.
